Garden Reflections 1
Abstract painting has been an unexplored territory for me until recently. Every time I sat down to paint one, I would look at the end product and think, “That’s just crap on a canvas”. I felt like my abstracts lacked any sort of intelligent design behind them. Then, the light bulb finally switched on when I painted Enchanted Waters. The funny thing is that I had not intended to paint an abstract…it just magically happened. Maybe I was just trying too hard before?
Well, I decided to include Enchanted Waters in my show at Savor Wine Boutique. Even though I had painted it for myself, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to see what sort of feedback I could get. And wouldn’t you know, it sold during the opening night reception!
This gave me a little encouragement to try a few more abstracts. I had the idea to paint a series of sunset scenes…and once again I wasn’t pleased with any of them. But then I started looking at the sunset paintings in different 5×7 sections. Certain areas of the paintings looked really cool! So I figured I would blow up the individual sections into their own paintings. I continued doing this exercise using a few different color schemes and application styles – which brought to life my “Garden Abstract” series.
“Garden Reflections 1 & 2” sold on the very first day during the Blue Ridge Arts in the Park festival this past

Garden Reflections 2
weekend. I can’t believe the roll that I’ve been on! I still have “Along Came Spring 1 & 2” available for purchase – but maybe not for long 🙂 Take a look at the paintings below for more info.
I’m so excited that I’ve finally opened the door into the world of abstracts. They are so much fun to paint – I feel like I can just let loose with them. I’ve got more abstracts in the works that will be in the vein of the original sunsets that I started out with last week. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
