Sawnee Artist Association: March Art Madness

One of the things that I love about participating in art shows and festivals is talking with the other artists and learning from them. And since I can only manage to participate in a few shows a year, I figured what better way to keep learning all year long than to join a local artists organization. In January I found a great group here in my hometown of Cumming, GA called Sawnee Artists Association (SAA) named for nearby Sawnee Mountain. Each month we meet, discuss local art related happenings and watch an artist demonstration. I’ve already met some great folks and learned about opportunities that I would have otherwise missed out on. And come to find out, the president of the group lives just a few houses down from me! Who would have guessed that?

Once a year, SAA hosts its member show titled “March Art Madness”. This year, it was held at the historic Brannon-Heard House in downtown Cumming. The house was the perfect backdrop for all of the beautiful artwork on display. They held lunch n’ learn artist demos and guest speakers through out the week along with a special performance by the Forsyth Youth Orchestra. And this year, they added a gift shop and prints available for purchase. The president reported record sales this year so I would consider that a success! We took advantage of our time at the house and held our monthly meeting there as well. Here are a few pictures from the event below.

If you are near the Cumming area and would like additional information on this fantastic group, check out our website at www.sawneeart.org. And if you would prefer to check our group out in person, we welcome guests to our meetings held on the last Monday of each month starting at 6pm.
